Catering to a Customer With Complex Needs in the Automotive
The 3D Configurator Provider's software lets brands showcase their digital product catalogues in 3D. A large part of their value proposition is the way its suite of tools integrates smoothly into its customers' retail and manufacturing tech stacks. The company approached Sigli to help with an integration for a new customer. Unlike previous cases, this client’s tech stack was complex and beyond the scope of the 3D Configurator Provider’s in-house expertise. Sigli built and implemented the integration — enabling them to cater to the customer, enter a new market, and ensure long-term performance through bug fixes and testing.

The company is a technology company that provides a product configurator application. It allows companies to display their catalogues digitally in 3D. The app also connects with the user’s full commerce and manufacturing tech stack. Once the software is set up, buyers can customise and order their own designs from a virtual, interactive showroom.
The 3D Configurator Provider is used by companies across a range of industries, and its client base extends beyond Europe to China and the US (it has offices in both countries). It’s a leader in the space and has set new standards for how customers interact with, design and order products.
A core feature of the 3D Configurator Provider’s software is that it integrates with enterprise users’ existing sales and manufacturing stacks. This allows for fully synced, automated workflows and fast end-customer fulfilment.
A new client in the automotive space had a complex tech stack. The provider’s in-house team at the time lacked the necessary expertise to build the integration. It was very important for the provider to be able to offer this integration because it represented a vital part of their value proposition.
The provider approached Sigli seeking a partner to help it develop an integration for its client. At the same time, the new functionality would allow them to enter an untapped, promising market. The successful completion of the brief would have both immediate and long-term results.
The client had the following specific project requirements:
Integrate the app with a client’s tech stack
Improve identity verification protocols
Help the client implement and troubleshoot the new integration
Sigli followed a five-step process:
The project ran from May 2021 to July 2023, and four developers were assigned.
This phase involved investigating and understanding both Twikit’s and the client’s software infrastructure.
Sigli set up the architecture for the integration API along with all the necessary development environments and systems.
The Sigli team built the integration frontend, integration API and supporting documentation.
Prior to deployment, Sigli conducted extensive quality assurance and testing.
After implementation, the team provided ongoing testing, bug fixes and feature additions based on requests from the end client.
The team was made up of four AI engineers, three full-stack engineers, three frontend engineers, and two quality assurance specialists, alongside a solutions Architect and Delivery Manager.Communication was via regular monthly in-person online meetings. Email and messaging apps allowed for contact between meetings.
Sigli used AGILE as the core methodology, with a Product Owner (PO) as the project manager and main point of contact with the client company. Regular rituals, including daily meetings, sprint planning and retrospectives, were employed to keep the project on track.
For the end customer, the results were tangible, with an increase in sales requests and a streamlined workflow. In addition, the provider successfully served its client and had an API suitable for serving other companies in the automotive market.
Here’s what the project looked like on completion:
Frontend application: sigli built a new frontend application for the provider’s client. It was designed specifically with the customer’s tech stack and associated needs in mind.
Backend integration: this consisted of an API (and supporting documentation) for the new integration. Unit and functional tests ensured stability, and Sigli took care of all architecture and infrastructure requirements, including cloud environments, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and so on.
Support for the end customer: Sigli assisted the end customer in deploying the integration and remedying issues that arose.
Ongoing support: after full implementation, the team provided ongoing support, responding to user requests, fixing bugs and ensuring performance.
