Creating
the Future of Street Mapping

Sigli & Street Mapping Company

OVERVIEW

One of the world’s largest street-level 3D mapping services, a top competitor of Google Street View in the Netherlands, operates a fleet of over 80 cars equipped with advanced imaging technology and AI. Sigli designed and integrated a client portal for this company's new recording equipment, allowing clients to collect their own mapping data. Sigli also built a dedicated app to support on-demand services.

Client Overview

This premier mapping provider offers digital products based on its 360° street-level panoramas. Its flagship product, a Netherlands-based competitor to Google Street View, provides mapped data and data-processing tools to clients in sectors such as government, utilities, and insurance.

Use cases include urban maintenance, property assessment, smart city planning, and vegetation management. With their services, clients can access data about traffic light numbers, flood levels, road sign conditions, and more.

The Problem: Shifting Customer Needs and New Tech

As a leader in urban mapping, this company based its success on proprietary technologies for mapping urban landscapes. Traditionally, its model involved sharing collected data and imagery through proprietary platforms.

The recent release of a new recorder allows businesses to collect their own data, building their own mapping infrastructure. This system requires an online portal for clients to manage recordings, devices, vehicles, and on-demand services, broadening the company’s market reach.

Develop and Implement Portal for Street Mapping Company

After prior successful projects with the mapping provider, Sigli was chosen to deliver a portal for these new recorders.

A Requirements included:

Implement a front-end online portal for the company users.

Extend backend functionality where needed to support the portal.

Build a separate backend app (accessible via the portal) for on-demand deployments of the portal’s infrastructure in specific regions.

The Process: Full-Stack Portal Development

The project ran from January 2022 to August 2022, and one full-stack software engineer was assigned. Sigli followed a three-step process:

Research and analysis of requirements:

Sigli defined the high-level requirements of the new solution architecture, incorporating customer feedback as part of the process.

Application development process:

This stage involved full-stack development of front and backend applications. Integration with existing infrastructure, like camera and AI-processing software, was a key component.

Support phase:

After development, Sigli provided ongoing support and stabilisation, conducting user testing and fixing bugs.
